Counting blessings

Saturday the moon was almost full. My 11-years old daughter had a friend over for a sleepover, and we went for a walk at midnight.

I took my Fujifilm X100F camera along. This is the picture I took. It was taken handheld. The camera has no image stabiliser. I was lying on the sand on the edge of a pond focussing manually — 1/4 sec exposure, f/2 aperture, and 12,800 ISO. The light of the stars is obscured by the light of the moon.

This is the thing I love about this camera. It gets you to try all sorts of things.

Here is another. My wife came along too. She was cold and was gazing at the stars on the other side of the sky to the moon.

The next day, we went for another walk before taking my daughter’s friend home. The ducks were out with their ducklings on the pond opposite where we were the night before.

A little earlier, above the beach, the two of them were being rocks. They reminded me of the trolls in Frozen.

On a weekend like this, it is easy to take everything for granted. The temperature was perfect. The sun was beautiful. It was free to go around the pond, and we had all the time in the world to let it all soak in.

Let’s count our blessings because, beneath all of this, everything is in flux. Climate change is here and we need these moments to remind us of what is important.
