We have to restrict what we do
Like it or now, climate change and the pressures of net-zero will not let us do everything
If we don't, the all plates will all come toppling down
This year, we are using 100 million barrels of oil a day. If we are serious about tackling climate change, next year we will have to reduce that to 98 million barrels or fewer each day, whether we are ready or not, and reduce again the year after that, and so on. We need to do the same for gas and coal too.
There will not be enough renewables in time to replace this.
Even if you are sensible, the next guy will not be, not until we come together to recognise we will bankrupt each other and ourselves by accelerating climate change and with our net-zero demands. Most likely, it will be both.
What we want you to do
- Accept that everything will not be possible.
- Invite us to speak to your boards and business associations so we can educate them.
- Organise industry-wide workshops to focus on how to survive without without sufficient replacements for oil, gas, and coal.
- Invite us to speak to the next generation of engineers, scientists, business executives, and entrepreneurs.
- Help us educate journalists and media influencers so at least they know when they presenting stories that make the situation worse.
Most important of all
We must never demand more energy than can be physically met
Given the complicity of the economy, one man’s good is another’s evil. If we cannot stop doing things, all our responsible and green intentions will not prevent substantial harm from happening.
